Empress Yaa Sultanah is a Bronx New York native, who holds a B.A in Black Studies/Education. Currently preparing for the U.C Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Empress Yaa plans to study Photo/Documentary Journalism. Visual Arts and New Media are disciplines used to share images that project her medium in the cultural arts. Empress Yaa is best known in the Bay Area for her creative expression, and it’s contribution to Oakland and Berkeley communities.

Empress Yaa has a captivating since of style and cultural consciousness that is reflected throughout her photographic stories. Her image archives are exclusively arranged and selected, capturing the essence black beauty. The most recent photographs include Empress Yaa’s photo collection from Nigeria and Ghana, West Kemet.

Empress acknowledges the power of Communication and believes that her purpose is to channel positive images through Mass Media. Ultimately, aiming to cultivate affirmative concepts of Black Culture.

“Art Speaks” will be her focus in the Pro Arts Open Studios this summer at Berkeley City College. So please come by and be inspired
