Liz Wiener
A transplanted New Yorker, I came to California about 15 years ago. I went to traditional art schools in New York and received an MFA in film production from Columbia University. I have taught film, video, and computer art to students from kindergarten through the college level. My film about a New York artist was included in the National Film Board of Canada's Films on Art catalog.
After moving to California I discovered Berkeley City College (then Vista Community College) and returned to an early love, the print. I find that its limitations inspire me. I love the constricted space, the possibility of implying motion and depth, yet also the ability to stop time and glimpse a moment.
My photographs and prints always begin with a photograph from nature and then are manipulated or interpreted with Photoshop and Lightroom software. There is a sense of quiet and silence that pervades my work, a result of my long time Buddhist meditation practice.
